Dear SJEEC Families, 

It is hard to believe it, but it is November! October was a whirlwind of all things fall…a visit to the pumpkin patch, fun fall stories, black cats, jack-o-lanterns and ghosts. We had our annual Halloween Parade and Carnival, Halloween parties and loads of fun pretending to be our favorite storybook characters and superheroes. This month, I want to focus on all that I am grateful for here at St. John’s Early Education Center.

I am grateful for all of the mums sold during our fall fundraiser. I hope the mums brightened your front stoops and helped you to celebrate the season. I am also grateful for the $985.00 we raised for the school! 

St. John’s truly is a joyful place. It is a joyful place to learn and a joyful place to teach. The learning that is woven into dramatic play centers, sensory tables, science experiments and storytime is always thoughtfully considered. Your children’s teachers spend hours beyond the school day planning, creating and preparing the meaningful moments that make up each day. This week we had one class learning about Community Helpers in anticipation of the fire truck visiting. Their dramatic play area was full of costumes that allowed students to become the community helpers that serve us every day. They also went on a walk through Old Worthington to look for the community helpers that live and work nearby. We spotted a trash truck, we passed a bank and a couple of restaurants and we ended at the post office.  

Another class was learning about nocturnal and diurnal animals in anticipation of our schoolwide pajama day. Students sorted cards with pictures of nocturnal and diurnal animals, had a storytime at the library that was focused on nocturnal animals, listened to the sounds that nocturnal animals make at night and learned about the adaptations that nocturnal animals have to make hunting and foraging in the dark possible. 

I am thankful for all of the amazing learning that takes place at St. John’s each week and for the incredibly devoted teachers that make all of this learning possible.
