Dear SJEEC Families, 

January and February just flew by! We have been enrolling students for our upcoming 2026-2027 school year, opening up summer camp registration, making changes in our growing programs and planning our Ice Cream Social and Open House. Next year we are expanding our Enrichment Program and we are adding a third 4/5s classroom! We love making room for more students!

This past February in art class, the students celebrated Black History Month by learning about Alma Thomas through the book: Ablaze with Color. Students then used vibrant colors and geometric shapes to make their own Alma Thomas inspired paintings. Those paintings now decorate our hallways on the second floor.

Students all around the school spent a lot of time this winter competing in our version of the Winter Olympics. The Enrichment Class opened their games by running with the torch through the downstairs hallway as teachers and classmates cheered on. The students played hockey, skied, scooted and kept balloons in the air for as long as possible. We learned how to win and how to lose. Most of all, we had fun!

This past month we also celebrated LOVE. Classrooms had post offices set up in their dramatic play areas, card-making centers and wonderful books about love and kindness in their reading nooks. The Enrichment Class created Valentines that they then sent off to loved ones at the post office down the street. They also read Carol McCloud’s Have You Filled a Bucket Today? We talked a lot about how we can fill one another’s buckets with simple acts of kindess. This is something that seems to be so easy for our preschoolers!

And finally, we also had a visit in February from Dr. Audrey Lower who is a local dentist. She and her assistant brought a giant toothbrush and some giant floss and the students got to pretend to be the teeth in a giant mouth. We’ve never been more enthusiastic about brushing our teeth!

March 17th: No School for Professional Development

March 30th-April 3rd: Spring Break!

April 6th: No School for Easter Monday

April 26th: Ice Cream Social and Open House 2:00-4:00
